12 Reasons for Rejection

1. Poor Attitude
Many candidates give wrong impressions of themselves.

2. Improper Appearance
Many candidates do not adhere to the proper interview attire. You only get one chance to make a first impression!

3. Lack of Research
It is very obvious when a candidate has not properly researched the job specifications or company prior to the interview.

4. Inability to Answer Questions
It is imperative that the candidate rehearse and practice answers to potential questions. (see tips on interviewing)

5. Lack of Questions
By asking questions you show interest in the company and the position.

6. Relying Too Much on Resume
Many candidates expect the resume paper to speak for them.

7. Too Much Humility
Many candidates are hesitant to describe their accomplishment for the fear of sounding like a braggart.

8. Not Relating Skills to Needs
You must be able to relate your skills to the company's needs.

9. Handing Salary Issues Poorly
Some candidates ask about salary and benefit packages too soon. Some request inappropriate amounts, and some undermine themselves by asking for too little.

10. Lack of Career Direction
Many candidates are unclear about their goals which limit their opportunities.

11. Job Shopping
This compromises the candidate's professionalism and ethics. Don't waste the company's time if you are not serious about the position.

12. Inaccurate Resume
A resume should reflect skills/background and include pertinent facts. More than 1 page is encouraged. Do NOT include personal data such as: SS#, height, weight, sex, hobbies, date of birth, etc.
